Guided by hope. Grounded in experience.

A Psychologist Who Believes in Possibility

I’m Dr Pieter van Rensburg—a Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years of experience helping people find clarity, regain control, and move toward a life that feels meaningful.

I’ve worked across three countries—South Africa, New Zealand, and now Australia—gaining insights from diverse cultures, systems, and people. My approach is shaped not only by clinical training, but by decades of real-life therapeutic work, a strong belief in human potential, and a commitment to hope.

Approach to therapy

My goal is to support change—not by labelling you as a problem, but by seeing your strengths and helping you build on them.

I tailor my approach to suit your needs, drawing from evidence-based therapies including:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

  • Schema Therapy

  • Mindfulness-based approaches

  • Motivational Interviewing

  • Logotherapy (meaning-focused therapy)

At the heart of my work is respect—for your story, your values, and your readiness for change.

What I Believe

  • Change is always possible

  • Therapy should be collaborative, not prescriptive

  • Every person deserves the opportunity to thrive

  • Psychology should honour the whole person—emotion, mind, body, spirit, and culture

  • A warm, safe and confidential space leads to better outcomes

Experience

  • PhD (Child Psychology)

  • MA Clinical Psychology (Cum Laude)

  • BA Honours (Psychology)

  • BTh Honours (Theology)

  • Registered Clinical Psychologist (AHPRA)

I also have extensive training in trauma response, personality disorders, psychosis, and complex mental health presentations. My previous roles include working within private practice, hospitals, the Police, Defence Force, and corrections settings—each contributing to my deep understanding of human resilience.

Life is complex, beautiful, and sometimes overwhelming. That’s why I do this work.
