Cost of adult ADHD/ASD assessments
It is important to note that Medicare does not cover any clinical assessments or report writing. Therefore, unfortunately, no claims can be submitted for this work.
If you have private medical insurance, please check with your provider to confirm whether they offer support before proceeding with the assessment. Once you have this information, you can submit a claim with the invoices you receive.
An assessment may involve the following activities:
· Diagnostic interviews
· The use of screening instruments to provide initial guidance in the use of assessment materials
· Formal assessment procedures, which include at least one hour of structured interviewing. These procedures may also involve requests for an observer to complete
some assessments.
· Possible interviews with someone who knows you well, typically from early childhood, such as a parent. This will only happen with your consent.
· Time allocated for report writing
· A session where the contents of the report are discussed with you.
If the assessment focuses on either ADHD or ASD, the fee for this activity is $ 1300.00. The first 50% payment happens after the diagnostic interviews. Once the assessment report is ready to be sent to your GP, the remaining 50% payment is due.
In some instances, both conditions must be assessed if ADHD is suspected. In this instance, the fee will be $1600.
